SOLO REPORT (Al Hermans) – Request for report on Event #2
We held our second solo event on June 19 at MCC. The event attracted 104 people. There were 22 novices that showed up. Hopefully we can keep several of them. As I recall, there were few, if any, hiccups. Trophies for 2020 were handed out at the drivers meeting.

At the Solo in June I believe Charlie Clark was there and noticed that the generator for the trailer tripped a couple of times which shut down the scoring equipment. He thought maybe because it is a  2500 watt generator and the A/C was running that might be the issue. Al indicated that it only occurred when someone used the compressor and caused it to come on which tripped the unit. He believes this is not a real problem for the Solo group.

Our next events are July 31 and August 1 and registration should open soon.

Tier 1 registration has opened for Solo Nationals.  Tier 2 opens tomorrow.

Numbers
Our total number of drivers over the weekend was 46. We had 33 drivers that competed on both days, 9 drivers that signed up just for Saturday and 6 drivers just for Sunday. We charged $80 for 2 day entry and $45 for a single day entry. We sold 3 KCRX stickers. We had 6 weekend memberships. We also had stickers made for the event that we included with the entry price for 2 day competitors.

Our net revenue for the weekend was $3,185.32.

Weekend Challenges
Rain: The rain throughout the week led to a few challenges primarily with course design and whether or not we were going to be able to hold the event at all. We were able to navigate around this in 3 ways.

  1. Good course design by Aaron Holstrom and Mark Macourbrie.
  2. Safeties keeping a close eye on degradation and adjusting appropriately to rutting and other hazards caused by changing course conditions.
  3. Lady luck. The weather was much more on our side than we anticipated, especially on day 1, and this helped from the event becoming a mud bog.

Timing: The timing system we planned to use for the weekend was the hose system, as this system avoids many of the issues we run into with the eyes such as false starts and ends by dirt, grass, or general debris made by Rallycross. Unfortunately this system was not able to be used and we had to switch back to the lazer system. This caused some initial problems early on heat 1 with tall grass causing false ends, but once we solved this issue the event ran much smoother by heat 2 and this smoothness continued into the afternoon and day 2.

Skid-loader breaking: The skid loader we were using to help assist with maintaining the field broke down early in the morning on Sunday. This was a machine that was on loan from the city and did not break because of anything we did. This meant we had to rely more heavily on our safeties and course changes that kept cars out of the heavy ruts that kept building up over the weekend.

General Feedback: The general feedback, especially from the people who travelled from other states was great. Many of the people who had travelled still had St. Louis regionals still on their mind, as did we. It left a bad taste in our mouths, and it seems we were able to wash that out. To me this is a huge success and speaks to potential future success with regional and divisional events in the future.

All in all it was a great event, everyone I talked to had a good time and we’re looking forward to our next event on July 25th at Riverside!

OLD BUSINESS

  • Nothing has moved on the wrap. Has been inspected and registered as of June 23.
  • Van and trailer is stored, payment method setup!
  • We will try to have a general meeting August 3rd, at the Bar.
  • AxWare license per Rueben: Reached out to AXWare and was told we have almost unlimited licenses and just need to have a list from RallyX and Solo as to who should have these so we can get them from AXWare. There are two types of license, one is for use only and the other is administration allowing the user to update the software. Rueben, is there a limited number of the administration license?
  • Information needed to provide to AXWare for licenses.
    • First and last name
    • Title/position held
    • Email

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Time to start thinking about the awards banquet, we have “assumed” Lisa would chair this again but need confirmation from her. Will have a Midiv convention this year, more details to follow?
  • Survey results Jessica forwarded to us showed an interest, mostly from the younger members, in a gimmick rally and/or a go kart event. Was thinking Paula volunteered for this but need confirmation from her. Jessica will send interest for events like gimmick rally to Paula.
  • Per Lisa’s suggestion, we decided to try and start in-person general meetings in August at The Bar. First one would be August 3. Lisa can you book The Bar for us please?

Survey results referred to in item 2.

Call for motion to adjourn.
Donna made a motion to adjourn, Chris seconded. Motion passed.
Meeting adjourned at 8:05 PM.
