Road Racing
Here’s amateur racing at its best. There are classes for street cars, formula cars and sports racers. For the budget-conscious, there is the SCCA Spec Racer Ford©, along with Improved Touring classes for slightly modified low-cost street cars and the popular Formula Vee open-wheel class. You get the training you need at SCCA Driver Schools and can choose competition at either Regional or National events in your area. National champions are crowned each Fall at the famed SCCA National Runoffs©.
GET STARTED: Visit the Road Racing page and decide what sort of car you’re interested in racing, or our Volunteering page to see what opportunities there are to be involved without a car. Then come to a General Membership Meeting or a Race Group Meeting and talk to any of the drivers, workers, and officials.
The fastest driver wins as you test your driving skills around the pylons. There are classes for all types of street and race cars and competition is as relaxed or intense as you wish. National Champions are crowned each year at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championship at the Lincoln Air Park in Lincoln, NE. There’s also the challenging ProSolo series, which features a drag racing start and competition on mirror image courses and offers awards to event winners and year-end champions.

RallyCross is the most widespread and readily accessible form of extreme dirt motorsport in the Sports Car Club of America. A course is laid out on a non-paved plot of land delineated by traffic cones. Nearly any street car can compete in one of nine different classes. The DirtFish SCCA RallyCross National Championship is held every fall at a location in the central Midwest.

The easiest way to start with SCCA. All that’s needed is a street-legal, licensed and insured car, truck, van, or whatever. Road Rallies are conducted on public roads at or below the legal speed limit and are not races–the goal is to get from the start to the finish in as close to the prescribed time as possible.

Drive your own street car at Heartland Motorsports Park, Topeka’s world-famous road race course! Minimal car preparation and no previous experience are necessary. A great way to get started on the race track.
GET STARTED: Check out the Calendar of Events for the date of our next Time Trial or Track Event.
Getting involved as a worker or official is as easy as going to one of our Road Races and volunteering to help. Workers are issued a license just like the competition drivers, and can work their way up through the levels of licenses by participating at different events and gaining the knowledge and experience necessary to hold a national specialty license. SCCA workers help staff most of the motorsport events held in the United States.
GET STARTED: Visit the Volunteer page to get an idea of what you’re interested in doing. Then come to a General Membership or Race Group meeting and talk to any of the members, or you can come to any of our race weekends to have a look around before you commit yourself.
