November 9, 2019 dawned clear and warm. What a great day for the Kansas City Region’s Fall Gimmick Rally. This year we visited three unique wineries, tasted their lovingly prepared liquid refreshments, traveled some beautiful Kansas back roads, enjoyed tremendous fellowship and oh yes, had a chance to win a flat screen TV. This year the region hosted twelve cars, with 26 attendees. SIXTEEN were new to the club and its activities.

The gimmick: at each stop each competitor received a playing card. There were questions to be answered along the way which required your attention to the road and your surroundings. For each correct answer, another playing card was given. The player at the end of the day with the best 5 card poker hand won. At the second winery, a decision had to be made: which cards were you going to keep before the last cards were received at the last stop. This proved to be especially difficult for some. At the last stop, players huddled over their cards, sometimes making “deals” with others , trying to come up with the winning hand. In the end there was a tie! Two Royal flushes! The tie was broken by highest card drawn from the deck. Who knew that a lowly card could win the TV. Our winner was a new guest, Jerry Jones of Lee’s Summit.

Thank you to all who came. The region looks forward to seeing you again at another event soon.

For those who missed it: David Williams is working on another gimmick rally for next year. See you at that one!
