Event 4 occurred over this past weekend and due to the threat of rain and the holiday weekend we had a lower than usual turn out. Fortunately for those that appeared, we had a great day of racing this July 3rd and if you’ve never paired holiday fireworks in the same day as an AutoX event, I highly recommend it!
The field was smaller than normal at only 88 drivers and therefore, we had only 2 heats with 5 runs as well as lots of after event “fun runs.” Due to the solo school on Saturday, we even had a few national level instructors show us how to get it done in just about any car they jumped into.
As a result, STX was a larger than normal class with Tom O’Gorman winning out with a blazing fast time of 31.870 in the number 111 mini cooper. Second in that class was Craig Wilcox running number 11111 on the same mini with a time of 31.987. That’s tight competition when only a tenth of a second separates places.

Many cones met their doom during the second heat and most of them were hit by Jeff Evans running in a Street Modified Mitsubishi Evolution. He’s our cone killer of the week with 12 total cones divvied up between 3 runs! Special mention goes to Matt Campos for hitting 11 total cones with his Subaru STi. Gotta love that Subaru/Mitsubishi rivalry.
