KCRSCCA has held two of the three fundraising events for Variety KC – Go Baby Go for the 2018 season. The Halloweenie Charity Event and the Halloweenie Silent Auction are done, and the 2018 Awards Banquet Silent Auction is fast approaching. The donations from the 2018 Halloweenie charity event and silent auction have been delivered to Variety KC – Go Baby Go! The event itself raised $1,600, and the silent auction and raffle raised $1,620.

The raffle for the Willow Tree Nativity Set was drawn in a live drawing December 9. And the winner was…Larry Smith! You may be wondering why I said Larry WAS the winner of the artist-signed Nativity Set. Smith wanted to continue to raise money for local children helped by the Go Baby Go program, so he posted the nativity set on ebay in order to raise more money. They were able to raise an additional $430 that will be donated to Variety KC – Go Baby Go.

I have had the privilege of coordinating the Halloweenie Silent Auction since 2015. Ever since seeing the incredible work that Go Baby Go does for local children and their families, I knew that this was a cause we could all get behind. Through modifications to toy cars, children are gaining mobility and inclusion as they increase their independence. Racing enthusiasts rallying behind children helped by cars – it just makes sense.

I was able to meet with Deborah Wiebrecht, Executive Director for Variety KC, earlier this week to drop off our donations. Wiebrecht was very humbled by our continued support and passed along her appreciation for our members believing in ALL kids driving.

We have raised $3,650 for Go Baby Go at 2018 events so far. Can we make it total over $5,200? I am challenging us to raise another $1,550 at the 2018 Awards Banquet Silent Auction. The 2018 Awards Banquet will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Deer Creek Golf Club. The silent auction tables open at 5:00 pm, and we will also have the Money Tree available to hang your donations. Come early to see what great donations our members bring. Enjoy cocktail hour, catch up with old friends, meet new ones, and share your joy of driving by donating to Variety KC – Go Baby Go. If you would like to donate an item, please contact me at jl_dorn@hotmail.com.
