The 2017 Kansas City Region SCCA Solo and RallyCross Championship seasons both begin on the weekend of March 18th and 19th, giving competitors an opportunity to dive right into competition after a long off-season. The first points-event for the RallyCross Championship will be on Saturday, March 18th at the Thunder Valley Sand Drags in Grain Valley, MO, while the Solo program will have its first of two pre-season Test and Tune events at the Metropolitan Community College Precision Driving Center on Sunday, March 19th. Both events are open for registration now at MotorsportReg.com.

KCRSCCA RallyCross Event #1

The Thunder Valley Sand Drags in Grain Valley, MO has been the early-season site for the Kansas City Region RallyCross program since 2013, and the program continues it’s partnership with the venue in 2017. Although not at large as other venues the program visits, Thunder Valley offers a great surface for SCCA RallyCross with it’s combination of hard-packed grass parking lot surface and billiard-table smooth clay drag strip. This is the perfect site to come and try RallyCross for the first time with your daily-driver. With minimal undulations in the surface, and amazing grip on the drag strip portion of the course, many Solo drivers will feel right at home.

Courses at Thunder Valley typically run in the 45-60 second range with plenty of space for tow vehicles and trailers for those who chose to haul their competition vehicles rather than drive. Located within the city of Grain Valley, MO, gas, food, lodging, and other services are just a few convenient blocks away. Overnight parking and camping can be arranged for those wishing to arrive on Friday evening.

Be sure to check out the rest of the Thunder Valley Sand Drags schedule and keep and eye out for special SCCA Night events. At select Drag Racing events, there will be an SCCA class where RallyCross competitors will be able to test their 1/8-mile drag times in their RallyCross cars, and you can check out some truly extraordinary 1000+ hp monsters.

KCRSCCA Pre-Season Test and Tune #1

On Sunday, March 19th, the Solo program will hold it’s first of two pre-season Test and Tune events. This is the perfect opportunity to shake the rust off of your Solo skills, and kill what remains of your 2016 tires. Registration will be limited to 65 drivers, so don’t put off registering for this opportunity to gain massive amounts of seat time. Many of our most skilled drivers will be on hand, so this is also a great time to have some talented hot-shoes sit with you in your car to give you instruction on how to drive your car at it’s absolute limit. It’s also a great time to ride with these amazing drivers to see just what a championship driver in a well-developed car can do.

The Metropolitan Community College Precision Driving Center has been an great partner for the Kansas City Region SCCA and offers a great place for novice drivers to learn the craft of performance driving. Located on 78 Highway just north of Independence Center mall, the venue is close to gas, food, and other services, as well as being easy to access.
