While we are very eager and excited to get the 2018 WaveSpec KCRSCCA RallyCross Championship season started, we also want to make sure that our events are fun and safe for our participants and spectators, and that we are good stewards of the venues at which we compete. The heavy rains on Tuesday coupled with the rains over the next three days, including Saturday morning, have caused the 2018 KCRSCCA RallyCross Advisory Committee (RAC) to postpone this weekend’s RallyCross Event #1 at the Thunder Valley Sand Drags.
The Thunder Valley Sand Drags has been a great partner for our growing program over the past four years, but one thing we’ve learned about the site is that it is very susceptible to excessively muddy conditions as those who were at the 2015 MiDiv RallyCross Challenge may remember. Rather than attempting a shortened course on the firmer areas of the site or risking getting cars and people stuck in the deep clay mud of the drag strip run-out, the RAC is exploring various possible future dates to reschedule the event, including the possibility of having a double-header event in the Fall. We will make sure to keep everyone up to date as decisions for the restructuring of our 2018 event schedule are made.
In the meantime, registration for the 2018 WaveSpec KCRSCCA RallyCross Event #2 will open on Saturday! (maybe we relabel this Event #1b?) Those who preregistered and prepaid for this weekend’s Event #1 will receive a credit on MotorsporReg.com that can be applied to a future KCRSCCA RallyCross event, including Event #2 on March 24th. Again, we apologize for having to cancel this first event. We’re certainly not against getting dirty, but no one likes getting stuck fender deep in the mud.
